The Government of India and various Union ministries have initiated several administrative, financial, and disaster response measures in early August 2026. On the financial front, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) announced the results of the buyback auction of Government of India Dated Securities, alongside the release of the RBI Governor's statement on August 5, 2026. Additionally, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman reportedly expressed the Centre's interest in investing to develop the tea and textile sectors in West Bengal, as shared by Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari.
In terms of public health and safety, the Union Health Ministry deployed a National Joint Outbreak Response Team (NJORT) to Gujarat and Rajasthan to combat an outbreak of the Chandipura Virus Disease (CHPV), which has claimed the lives of at least 22 children in Gujarat. For infrastructure and transport, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari highlighted that Uttar Pradesh recorded the highest number of traffic violations via e-challans under the newly introduced Central Motor Vehicles (Third Amendment) Rules, 2026. Furthermore, the Centre revealed that 471 National Highway bridges were found to be distressed, with repairs for 312 of them scheduled for completion by December 2028, following a decision to centralize data gathering for bridge safety.
In other developments, the Centre executed an anti-piracy crackdown under the Information Technology Rules, 2021, blocking 4,996 Telegram channels and 1,263 websites. On disaster relief, BJP President and Union Minister JP Nadda visited landslide-hit Mon in Nagaland and flood-affected regions in Assam to assure central support and convey solidarity. Meanwhile, the Centre informed the Supreme Court that a proposal has been sent for in-principle approval of a scheme aimed at modernizing police forces, and Union Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu addressed queries regarding potential plans to blend ethanol into Aviation Turbine Fuel.
