Lok Sabha proceedings adjourned for the day after passing Appropriation Bill

The Lok Sabha witnessed significant legislative activity and political sparring during the monsoon session on August 4, 2026. The house passed the Appropriation Bill, after which the proceedings were adjourned for the day. Additionally, the Lok Sabha passed a bill to increase the strength of Supreme Court judges to 38. This bill, passed by a voice vote, replaces an ordinance promulgated in May and aims to address the mounting backlog of cases before the court. The session was also marked by protests and disruptions. Opposition MPs, including Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi, held protests against alleged donation theft at the Ram Temple ahead of the session. Due to sparring between the NDA and Opposition MPs, the Lok Sabha was initially adjourned till 2 pm, while the Rajya Sabha was adjourned till 12 pm, before the Lok Sabha was eventually adjourned for the day.
