SC declines plea challenging SCBA resolution supporting Wangchuk hunger strike
The Supreme Court of India declined a plea challenging a Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) resolution that supported climate activist Sonam Wangchuk's hunger strike. The court stated that any grievances regarding the resolution should be addressed through the democratic processes established under the association's rules.
In a separate development, Sonam Wangchuk extended his support to protesting students in Jharkhand. He interacted with student leader Devendra Nath Mahato, who was on a hunger strike protesting alleged irregularities and paper leaks in the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC) recruitment examinations. Wangchuk urged Mahato to end his fast.
Following a video call with Wangchuk, Mahato drank water but stated to reporters that he would continue to consume only water and salt until the government addresses the protesters' demands. The job aspirants in Jharkhand are demanding an investigation by central agencies into the alleged exam irregularities.
